Horizontal or Vertical Tiles?

As we all know already, horizontal lines do increase width while vertical ones add length or height. Apply this principle to the tiling of a small room like the bathroom for example, and you will obtain a seemingly wider, longer or taller room. If adding decorative lines does not suit your taste, however, then you can use the shape of the tiles to optically help towards the room's specific needs. On your wall, horizontally placed rectangular tiles will optically add extra needed room, while vertical rectangles will help you push a low ceiling a bit further away.

So, should you lay the floor horizontally or vertically? This way or that... have you yet faced this choice? Indeed, the choice of tiles is primarily based on aesthetic taste, but their geometric shape must also be considered as it will help you increase the general feel of a room. Flooring is a great addition to the overall value of your property but can be expensive and you must get it right, because once the tiles are down and the job is done it will be impossible to make changes without starting again from scratch.

The laying of floor tiles can help you achieve that wider or longer 'first impression' in any  room. At the entrance, having lines running across the walking path may interrupt the sense of flow, but lines that run long-way will add depth to the room and welcome you in.

So, when choosing you next flooring, consider the shape of its tiles as well, and decide how you are going to lay it. This way or that? A successful flooring is up to your taste, yes and, now you know it, it's up to the shape and size of the tile a well. Talk to the flooring salesperson for more expert advice.
