DIY Christmas Decorations

December 4, 2017

You can buy ready-made, or reuse the same old ones, but I find that making your own new decorations is much more fun. You can turn it into a family event and include the children or some friends, to get creative and make a night of it. Where do I start, you ask? There is so much material at Spotlight that all you need to come up with is a little bit of creativity. I started with deciding a theme first, then the colours; I find it is very effective choosing only one or two main colours to decorate with, and this time I chose yellow and pink for my designer take on the traditional Christmas colours. The theme I want this year is natural and inviting, but fun and summery, bringing in the Australian bush colours and some great natural, recyclable materials.

If you want to give these a go it's easy, trust me. The following pictures will give you the gist as I show you 'step by step' how I made them, but feel free to enhance this idea, change the colours to personalise it and make it work with your home décor, and MOST IMPORTANTLY have FUN! So, see below how to do it, and let me know what you think of my bespoke decorations which I made for the Christmas Tree this year:

The Materials I used:

  • Kaiser Lucky Dip Jute Bags,

  • Derivan Student Acrylic Paint [yellow and pink]

  • Deco Foam balls,

  • Kaiser Lucky Dip (Laser cut) Wood Shapes,

  • SN Pink Jute Cord,

  • Scissors (& Paint Brush)

Don't forget that at Spotlight the staff are very friendly and are experts at DIY. Ask for help if you don't know how or are not sure; they will easily come up with clever tricks and solutions, and suggest materials you may not know of, to help you bring your ideas to life.

Have Fun and Merry Christmas!!
