When selecting colours for the outside of your Federation house, don’t disregard the stunning results that blue can add to the architectural details of your home.
To highlight the fascias and windows, any variation of blue with white, will add crispness and interest to the home without overwhelming the integrity of its original style.
The reason why blue works so well is that it “off-sets” the orange tones in Terracotta roof tiles, the normal roofing in federation homes. In fact blue is the “complementary colour” of orange, that is, they are found opposite/matching each other on the colour wheel. For this reason blue sits harmoniously with the terracotta tiles, as well as lifting nicely against the darker blue/brown tones in traditional Federation bricks.
Try Taubmans Boudoir Blue for a soft effect, or for a more contrasting lilac blue, try Taubmans Aphrodite, which will pick up nicely the blue of the agapanthus, a popular choice in Federation gardens. Offset these with crisp or slightly milky whites for the rest of your trims and details, and your Federation Home, will be the toast of the street!
