If you like Interior Design, then you know of DENFAIR, a showcase for contemporary furniture design as well as an opportunity for emerging Australian and professional designers, architects, interior stylists and design-lovers to connect. Ended just a few days ago, in Melbourne, this furniture and design exhibition was bubbling with new & established ideas on function and style.
This year, a good part of the fair was dedicated to the showcase of office furniture solutions, and as many of us spend long hours at work, this is one environment we surely enjoy being efficient, inviting and why not, also beautiful. In fact some office furniture is nowadays' so beautiful that we could easily choose to bring it into our homes, and as the numbers of those working from home are increasing, this is an aspect of interiors growing in relevance..

Walking around I love stopping here and there to chat with exhibitors; it’s always interesting to discover more about their products, the story of their making. In fact so much work goes into the research for quality materials and production that it’s a great loss to judge items of design simply by their looks. When at design/furniture fairs, I firmly recommend you stop by, touch and feel and ask questions... try to understand more about those items that have grabbed your attention. Whether it's the materials, or the way products are made; is it an established large business, a family-run one or a single young maker? Let's give time to discover these unique stories, where their quality lies, & better understand how one product distinguishes itself from the others.
And stopping by is never more appropriate than when walking past smaller stands with intriguing items. Smaller brands and emerging designers are my favourite appointment at every fair, because there you seem to discover fresh commitment to qualities such as function, materials, attention to detail as well as beauty. Engaging with them, encourages new talent and never fails to reward our curiosity about the how & why of design choices... I firmly believe it’s very important we support emerging and local designers; don't you?
You might have missed this yearly event, but I encourage you NOT to miss next month's appointment with DECOR + DESIGN, Australia's number 1 Interiors Trade Event; a great display of national and international talent. The VIVID awards will be presented there among a beautiful exhibition of selected new works of Australian Design. Not last, on partnership with Australian House & Garden magazine, the International Seminar Series is thick with distinguished national and international industry speakers; click HERE to see who will be there and book your tickets soon not to miss out on your favourite talk. At Decor + Design I will offer a workshop on "Façade To Flooring: Schemes for Modern Australian Homes" on the Thursday the 18th. If you see me waking past, probably ‘touching and feeling' something beautiful, please stop me and say 'hi', as catching up with new and old friends is also a very important part of any design show!
