Storage Always Wins

By choice or by habit we tend to accumulate 'stuff', it's human right? But as the amount of possessions grows, so does the need for us to increase the size of our homes. As we grow our collections, whether it's clothes, shoes, kitchenware, art or family mementos, we tend to fill all available shelves and cabinets, and often let items stay there for too long, unseen, unused. But far from starting a discussion on being slaves to our possessions, nobody can deny the need for, or the benefits and great value of Storage Space. Storage is like chocolate (& cheese for me), the more the better.

Together with the feeling of spaciousness, natural light and other essential characteristics, storage has grown very high on the wish-list for that 'desirable home'. Walk-in pantries, built-in cabinetry, walk-in wardrobes, you get it, right? And responding to this need for storage solutions, most new homes make the most of all nooks, corners and overhead spaces that went for so long un-utilised. The results are clever, appealing and undeniably useful. Whilst supporting our passion for collecting, storage solutions are actually a good way to stop us form buying MORE!! as they help us staying organised and keeping our homes tidy by hiding clutter away. Not last, storage solutions add great value to our properties.

In fact, clever storage solutions are so valuable, they end up having a great influence on possible buyers and affect how more desirable one property is over another This is an area to pay great attention to, if planning to sell or rent your home, as its practical and aesthetic storage solutions will make it appealing, helping you to sell/rent faster and possibly for higher prices.

Finally, whether for yourself or on a property you want to place on the market, any storage must be kept tidy and organised. Failing to do so, will give you anxiety every time you open those doors, let you forget what you have and make you double your purchases. Even worse, it could seriously discourage potential buyers, as it gives the impression that your storage may not be large or good enough ... Take a peek below at this short video on styling wardrobes which I know will help you when placing your property on the market!

A Treble of Tips:

  • Closed storage is better than open shelves, which accumulates dust and is visually cluttering.

  • Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry offers more storage and a tidier look than a robe against the wall.

  • Keeping your storage labeled and tidy, will give property buyers an impression of there being plenty of space.
