More Than Shelves and Drawers

When we think about joinery, most of us picture the usual suspects: cupboards, shelves and a few trusty drawers. But modern cabinetry is so much more than simple storage. Clever hardware solutions and thoughtful design details can dramatically improve how we live in our homes making our spaces more efficient, more organised and, frankly, more enjoyable to use every day.

To showcase just how many possibilities are out there, I recently visited the Wilson & Bradley showroom in Perth, where I had the pleasure of exploring some of the latest innovations in cabinetry hardware and mechanisms. If you’re curious to see what I discovered, you can watch the video now uploaded on my YouTube channel.

From the moment you walk into the showroom, it feels like stepping into a beautifully organised home. One of my favourite examples was their versatile wardrobe system, complete with elegant lighting, drawers with perforated bases for airflow, and clever inserts that adapt to whatever you need to store, whether it’s shoes, trousers or your favourite winter knits. Even better, the pull-down hanging rails mean anyone can easily access even the highest spaces - no more balancing on wobbly stools!

Around the corner, the bathroom display was a treasure trove of smart ideas. Think pull-out hampers that blend seamlessly into cabinetry, inner drawers fitted with dividers for toiletries, and docking drawers with built-in power points for your hair dryer or shaver. Everything has a place, and nothing is left cluttered on the benchtop.

The kitchen area showed off equally ingenious solutions. I was impressed by the pocket doors that glide away to reveal fully functioning work zones, perfect if you like to keep your cooking area hidden when guests arrive. The lift-up overhead cupboards, powered by Servo-Drive technology, make opening and closing doors effortless. And for those of us who aren’t blessed with height, there’s even a nifty space step that tucks neatly away when you’re finished using it.

What struck me most during the visit was how each mechanism doesn’t just look sleek, it’s designed to make life easier. Whether it’s bins that open at a touch, modular inserts for your oils and sauces, or beautifully lit drawers that show you exactly what you have, it all adds up to cabinetry that works with you.

If you’re designing new joinery or refreshing your existing kitchen, bathroom, laundry or wardrobes, I’d highly recommend taking the time to visit a Wilson & Bradley showroom yourself. You’ll be inspired by what’s possible and see firsthand how the right details can elevate your home and the way you use it.

And if you can’t get there in person, their website is a fantastic place to start gathering ideas. You might just discover the just-right features you need to make your space be the perfect one you deserve.
