Two elements that I look for in every project are natural light and air flow, because they're the hardest to replicate if they don't exist. In our renovation project we've actually got nice windows and they're well balanced throughout the floor plan. We've also got airflow because the beach is about a few minutes’ walk away. We get those beautiful breezes coming in at the end of a hot day...
Now, in our project the living dining room and the new kitchen are actually on the east side of the house. We get the beautiful morning light but as the light carries up then the light disappears to the other side of the house. I know I wanted to add more natural light so I’ve opted for skylights. I deal with skylights a lot in my projects and I’m familiar with Velux. I love the brand I know I can also include openable skylights, that allows me on a really hot day to open them the hot air will leave and cool air will flood on in.

I selected my Velux Skylights from No1 Roofing & Building Supplies.
When we bought this home we were very lucky because there was already an existing great amount of natural light and air flow through the existing windows, but we did want to capture more natural light here. We ended up going to Velux because of their wide range of size options. I already know that they're a great quality product to put in my home.
A great feature that I really love is the ability to open them. Now, this is perfect for warmer days because being able to open those beautiful skylights means that the warm air flows straight up through the top and fresh air comes back in through the windows. It's like a natural operating air conditioning system. They also close automatically when it starts raining, so they can be loft open with no worries.
Of course there are times of the year that we want to have the light but we want to be able to control and close it because of heat, especially in the middle of summer, and Velux has the solution for that too with their built-in blinds.
They come with a remote control and all functions are solar operated, which means there is no need for electrical connections.
Adding natural light into the centre of the home has completely changed how it feels inside our house, and it also offers a beautiful feeling of connection between inside and out... I could not be happier.
