Styling The Table: 'Tribal Flavour'

The dining room is an important space where you get to spend time with family and friends. It's where you get a break from our very busy life. Of course, seating is very important for any dining room. For this look I’ve chosen this beautiful navy velvet dining chair, so luxurious and so tactile. It’s from Contents International Design and I’ve chosen this one for a few reasons. It has a beautiful velvet texture which plays with the light, even velvet legs. It also has a fantastic quilting detail. Just a few weeks ago I was in Milan at the Design Fair and quilting was everywhere. I saw it in ottomans, in sofas… it’s a beautiful detail also in leather; but on velvet it adds another textural detail. These chairs are right on-trend and this beautiful navy blue is rich and goes well with our tribal look.

Now, especially for those of you who are not good cooks, you have to make sure at least that the plates look great if the food doesn’t. So here is the perfect range for you from Royal Doulton. It’s the brand new Ellen DeGeneres collection. And those of you who know Ellen know that she is all about love; spreading love around the world.

Those who know me, know that I am big about artwork in the home. It’s a way to add personality to a space. It adds impact and highlights as you walk through the home. As I’m going for a Tribal look in this dining room, I have the perfect piece. It's amazing, don't you think? Her name is ‘Amazing Grace’ and is part of my collaborative range with United Interiors. Another important element about artwork is about creating a conversation piece, and this one is definitely going to do that. Then I need to add some more tribal styling.

The floral choice for my centrepiece adds a rustic texture, in a mostly green and white palette. And now the tribal look is complete.

Now, achieving this look is about mixing your elements together. Here I have beautiful furniture and tableware, glassware and stunning vases. But the rest of the styling is bits and pieces that I’ve found in my travels, things that mean something to me. And that’s what personalises the dining room. This way you are ready for a successful dinner party. Hopefully the food and wine are going to be good as well.

Tips:

  1. Play with different interesting textures,

  2. Use one main and strong colour,

  3. Style with objects of different heights

  4. Place one artwork to define the mood
