White Versus White

Think white is just white? Think again!
Choosing the right white paint can make a remarkable difference to how your home looks and feels. Some whites are crisp and fresh, others are warm and inviting, while some have subtle grey or blue undertones that can completely change the atmosphere of a room.
With so many shades available, choosing the perfect white can feel surprisingly challenging. The good news is that a few simple steps can make the process much easier. Here are some basic Tips.

1. Consider your existing finishes
Before choosing a white, look at the other elements in your room. Your flooring, window frames, kitchen joinery and furniture all influence how a particular white will look.
A crisp, cool white might work beautifully with contemporary finishes, while a warmer white could complement timber flooring and natural materials. The key is to choose a white that works in harmony with the rest of your interior.

2. Test larger paint samples
Small paint swatches can be misleading, making it difficult to appreciate the subtle differences between whites. Once you have narrowed your options down to two favourites, paint samples approximately 40 x 40 centimetres in size.
Larger samples make it easier to compare the colours and understand their undertones before making your final decision.

3. Test your colours on the actual walls
Lighting plays a crucial role in how paint colours appear. Natural light changes throughout the day, while artificial lighting can make the same white look warmer or cooler.
Always test your samples on the walls of the room you intend to paint. If possible, observe them at different times of the day and under your usual evening lighting. This simple step can help you avoid surprises once the entire room has been painted.
Still unsure where to start?
Taubmans has introduced its new Go-To Whites collection, featuring six different whites designed to simplify the process of choosing the right shade for your home.
It is a useful starting point if you are planning a renovation, building a new home or simply refreshing your interiors.
Remember, the best white for your project is not just any white. In fact, it is its shade that works with your lighting, complements your finishes and creates the atmosphere you want in your home.
Choosing the right white really does make a difference.
