DIY Door Garland

Because first impressions do really set the mood, besides adding Christmas decorations inside your home a good looking garland on the front door is the best way to welcome everyone and get them into a festive mood. But I must admit I am a bit perplexed every time I see winter things around as our Aussie Christmas is far from cold and snow... so, to decorate I've chosen this year the colourful theme of Australian Summer and with a few simple but very effective materials I bought at Spotlight I have made this beautiful decoration. Because I know you would like to make one too, I thought of showing you how easy it is.

I decided upon a "natural and neutral" theme for Christmas 2017, and that involves a mix of natural materials blended in with an Aussie twist. To achieve this I found these very convincing Wattle and Christmas Bush flowers form Spotlight which gave me my inso for a Pink and Yellow colour theme this year, which I reckon has come up a treat!

Find below my step-by-step pictures of how I have done it. You may want to change its colours and adapt it to your home's style, or you may prefer fresh flowers or small branches from your own garden... go for it. Simply weave in and around the garland the LED lights, securing the battery pack at the back behind the jute hanging string, using clear sticky tape. Then cut the sprays of flowers into short lengths and start weaving in and around the garland mixing in the colours to arrange a well balanced look. You can use the green lengths you cut form the bottom of each flower to bend in and around the flowers and hold them in place, as they have wire inside. So see my pics below to see how you do it:

The material I found at Spotlight:

  • Cane Wreath with Jute

  • Led Bud Lights, 4meter long

  • AA batteries

  • Wattle Spray, yellow

  • Patrinia flowers, pink

  • transparent adhesive tape

  • A pair of pliers

Yes, I could have used the good old winter garland, but you must agree with me that this Australian Christmas one suits our season much better. Christmas here is bright, summer and outdoors, so I believe we should all find the way to bring that into our Festive Season. And if you have any other ideas but do not know how to bring it to life... go to Spotlight and ask for help with any of their friendly staff. They will show you what you need and how to do it...

Be creative this Christmas, and have fun while doing it.
